Venue - Goodlife Summer Fest, somewhere in Belgy land, Ostende I think :)
This is more like a diary of my trip to Belgium ok...
I only went to see Aborted and InQuest, my Aborted review is on the Haematoforums site, and heres the InQuest one.
Set list:
1. Reverberating Human Callousness
2. Retrospective Void
3. Epileptic
4. Stahlmacht
5. Scorched
6. The Imminence of disposition
7. Neurofractal Bypass
8. Placid Vortex
I REALLY enjoyed this gig and ok, I wanted to see MiQe live as I've been friends with him and his girlfriend, my sis, Eve Ill for a good while it was fantastic to finally see what he can do.
Since researching InQuest, I've been impressed with this band. They're a good death metal group, not my normal cup of tea as they're quite technical as opposed to brutal death, but they have some really memorable, catchy little songs. Epileptic, their recent release, is a delicious album, really.
You can see from the set list they mainly focused on Epileptic tracks, and I was not disappointed in that. Both Aborted and members of InQuest queried the sound a bit at the gig, but to a dumbass fan like me, it all sounded sweet as fuck. The guitars were clear, the drums audible, and the vocals were great.
Performance-wise InQuest are interesting. For those of you who dont know, look up at the image on the top of this forum, those grey metallic looking t shirts were what they all perofrmed in, which was cool. Guitarists Jan and Douglas couldnt look more different if they tried. Jan looks like that Billy dude from Biohazard, a complete brooding, hardcore heavy case. He's very eye catching, and you expect him to break out and go ape shit at any point, where as Douglas is a long haired mofo (anal prober) who thrashes around the place quite happily. Bassist Manu is pretty static and headbangs in his spot in rythm to his music. Gert's a happy lil thrasher in the background keeping the whole shebang together with his tight as fuck drumming. We like and approve. New vocalist MiQe couldnt have given it more if he tried. 100%. Its not just coz he's a mate, he was thrashing around the place, interacting with the crowd and loving it. Give him his dues, hes been with them only a short while and is still learning his shit, so I think he's going to go from strength to strength,.
Old fans of Inquest are used to Sven of Aborted, and NoiseGrinder. Those two are hardass death vocalists. MiQe is not. He's a powerful, growling, hardcore singer. Considering InQuest arent brutal death metal, I think this new direction MiQe is taking them in is going to be exciting.
Oh, and the next day, they went from being \\m//etalheads to being satanic church defacers (Mike and Douglas - remember the church shop????), nun abusers, to tour guides. Diverse fuckers, aint they? :D
