I can name quite a few of them: Therion (up to '95 then they turned shit), Unleashed, Grave, Desultory, Vomitory, Hypocrisy, Seance, Carnage, Furbowl, Cemetary (upto '95). Also some cool shit from demo days Nirvana 2002, Macrodex, House of Usher, Crematory
good UNDERGROUND shit from sweden includes kaamos, incision, verminous and impious.
i can send you mp3s if you want. :)
although not old school swedish death, a modern band that is worth checking out from sweden is stabwound :)

Kaamos rule man! i was in their show in greece-it was first show outside sweden! killer band.
hey, EDGE OF SANITY were among the first bands of this old-swedish death metal scene. "The spectral sorrows" is monumental. try the 2 crimson albums also, especially the first one
anyway what do you think of bloodbath? i think they're getting rich with someone else's music...if you know what i mean...

oh, yes, my friend. i do remember. what a masterpiece this album was. and guess where i took my avatar from. :)
back to topic: you have to check out CENTINEX. they have been around for a long time, but still remain quite unnoticed.
on my homepage i have a section about swedish death metal (in german, unfortunately). i have tried to gather names and discographies of important bands and also underground bands. many of them have been mentioned above. but maybe you'll find some interesting names there.
try THIS LINK (http://www.taurelin.com) and click on "schwedendeath".
edit:
i have to mention one band: NIRVANA 2002. they only appear on one sampler (collections of a stained mind, you'll find a songlist on my hp, too). their song "mourning" is excellent, very much in the style of "left hand path" or old dismember songs.

EDIT:
Anyone into old-style Swedish Death should check out CHAOSBREED, a Finnish all-star band, featuring a.o. Taneli Jarva (ex-Sentenced, now The Black League) + Amorphis and Gandalf members. Their album "Brutal" is excellent and has that great old-school atmosphere. www.chaosbreed.net

There are a lot bands playing old school Swedish Stockholm death metal. Last week I reviewed a demo from a Turkish band. The guys of NETTLETHRONE have an average age of 17 (!!!) years old. Yet their demo can compete with great names in the Swedish style, mixed up with a bit more modern/melodic sounds. Www.nettlethrone.com.

Maybe I should give them a second chance, but at first listen it didn't impress me at all. Also I read in Aardschok that their gig @ Party San wasn't too spectacular and that the crowd wasn't very enthusiastic, but I wasn't there of course..

always meant to check em out, never got round to it though :depressed any good?

i'm afraid that's true. they played relatively early so most people were just standing around, some watching their show, others not. personally i thought they were one of the most talented of the not-so-popular bands. some songs remind me a lot of edge of sanity so i just can't help appreciating this.

yeah, i prefer "Fornever Laid To Rest" too. it has magic atmosphere, samples between songs build wierd, evil climate and music is better than on "Saltrubbed Eyes" i think. 2nd album is more mature if you know what i mean... "Fornever" is like "Left Hand Path" or "Like Ane Everflowing.." - fourious, angry etc.

I just said I greatly prefer SE! it has magic atmosphere, samples between songs build wierd, evil climate and music is better than on "Saltrubbed Eyes" i think. 2nd album is more mature if you know what i mean... "Fornever" is like "Left Hand Path" or "Like Ane Everflowing.." - fourious, angry etc.Exactly the reason why I seem to like all those bands' second albums better ("Clandestine", "Indecent & Obscene"). :)
