VAMPIRE MAGAZINE:
Right ahead from the first time I see "Fragments of D-generation" it automatically draws my attention. The fiery yellow glowing front cover is one you cannot skip without noticing it. Without hesitating I put the CD into my stereo... Mmm... Sounds really great, but those vocals remember me of someone... Soilwork perhaps? Bingo, we have a winner!!! The Italian Disarmonia Mundi's vocalist is no one less than mister Bjorn "Speed" Strid! What the fuck? Disarmonia Mundi is a project taken its first steps somewhere in the year 2000. And after their self produced & self financed debut album "Nebularium" in 2002, it's time for a second chapter...
"Fragments of D-generation" begins with "Common state of inner violence", the less good, but most aggressive of all songs on "Fragments of D-generation". The neo-Swedish thrash song remembers me of Carnal Forge, Terror 2000, Darkane and others. Problem with those bands are the monotone screams. Luckily Disarmonia Mundi enjoys refreshing choruses. Even in the trashy spin off song... When the second song "Morgue of centuries" commits its crime, the true drive for this album is set. Soilwork baby! What can I say? Melodic harmonies, up tempo beats, catchy rhythms and sing along vocal lines. Sometimes Disarmonia Mundi is even a bit better than Soilwork. "Fragments of D-generation" sounds like "Natural born chaos" and "Figure number five", but... More up beat and less mellow. I mean, the clean vocals in the choruses are less emotional than Speed does on his main band. There's a more positive vibe running Disarmonia Mundi, though the resemblances with Soilwork are undeniable, probably of the high quality of the vocals. The vocals are a playing a leading role in both bands. You can say Disarmonia Mundi is a clone of their Soilwork master, including keyboards, but I haven't heard one single band paying tribute of this quality, sometimes even better than their masters!!! Each song had got its typical structure with lots of harmonies, flashy solo's and melodic keyboard lines. I must have heard the album for 15 times now and it's getting better each time I hear it! The problem with many releases is the declining of quality at the end of the album. Well, "Fragments of D-generation" just gets better to the end. My personal favourites are "Oceangrave" and "Come forth my dreadful one" (=> having more old school Gothenburg influences). Another thing I want to mention are the superb deep grunts on the last song "Colors of a new era", yeah! Awesome!
I heard many good releases (Vehemence, Within Y, Lunaris,...) this year, but fuck, "Fragments of D-generation" will be in my top 10 for sure!!! Soilwork will remain "numero uno", but this one comes close... Really, this album deserves a lot of attention!!! I would give them the maximum score -10 for not being that original and -1 for the first song. The band's still searching for members, so I guess I'll have to move to Italy! Great music, damn fine weather and even more damn fine women! Haha...
