VAMPIRE MAGAZINE:

Right ahead from the first time I see "Fragments of D-generation" it automatically draws my attention. The fiery yellow glowing front cover is one you cannot skip without noticing it. Without hesitating I put the CD into my stereo... Mmm... Sounds really great, but those vocals remember me of someone... Soilwork perhaps? Bingo, we have a winner!!! The Italian Disarmonia Mundi's vocalist is no one less than mister Bjorn "Speed" Strid! What the fuck? Disarmonia Mundi is a project taken its first steps somewhere in the year 2000. And after their self produced & self financed debut album "Nebularium" in 2002, it's time for a second chapter...

"Fragments of D-generation" begins with "Common state of inner violence", the less good, but most aggressive of all songs on "Fragments of D-generation". The neo-Swedish thrash song remembers me of Carnal Forge, Terror 2000, Darkane and others. Problem with those bands are the monotone screams. Luckily Disarmonia Mundi enjoys refreshing choruses. Even in the trashy spin off song... When the second song "Morgue of centuries" commits its crime, the true drive for this album is set. Soilwork baby! What can I say? Melodic harmonies, up tempo beats, catchy rhythms and sing along vocal lines. Sometimes Disarmonia Mundi is even a bit better than Soilwork. "Fragments of D-generation" sounds like "Natural born chaos" and "Figure number five", but... More up beat and less mellow. I mean, the clean vocals in the choruses are less emotional than Speed does on his main band. There's a more positive vibe running Disarmonia Mundi, though the resemblances with Soilwork are undeniable, probably of the high quality of the vocals. The vocals are a playing a leading role in both bands. You can say Disarmonia Mundi is a clone of their Soilwork master, including keyboards, but I haven't heard one single band paying tribute of this quality, sometimes even better than their masters!!! Each song had got its typical structure with lots of harmonies, flashy solo's and melodic keyboard lines. I must have heard the album for 15 times now and it's getting better each time I hear it! The problem with many releases is the declining of quality at the end of the album. Well, "Fragments of D-generation" just gets better to the end. My personal favourites are "Oceangrave" and "Come forth my dreadful one" (=> having more old school Gothenburg influences). Another thing I want to mention are the superb deep grunts on the last song "Colors of a new era", yeah! Awesome!

I heard many good releases (Vehemence, Within Y, Lunaris,...) this year, but fuck, "Fragments of D-generation" will be in my top 10 for sure!!! Soilwork will remain "numero uno", but this one comes close... Really, this album deserves a lot of attention!!! I would give them the maximum score -10 for not being that original and -1 for the first song. The band's still searching for members, so I guess I'll have to move to Italy! Great music, damn fine weather and even more damn fine women! Haha...

I gave the album a 100% over at the Metal Archives, although I made a slight error I'm sure most of you will pick off, just a typo. :(

Could you post it here?

I can. Here it is. I'll highlight the mistake I made.

First off, let me say, excellent album. A huge step foward from their debut. The song writing is so catchy and dynamic, the guitars are very impressive. The drums, while good, are a bit quiet. Very loud bass, hopefully you have a system capable of blasting it.

Sounding like Soilwork more often than not, this band even does it better in most cases. The keys and sound effects give the album a very progressive, modern feel.

Vocally, this album is exquisite, Speed is up to his usual Soilwork tricks, growling, screaming, yelling. But the real magic comes from Caludio Ravinale, who provides the chorus' with an open, sprawling beauty. <---- We all know thats Ettore Rigotti In other words, it kicks ass.

The album kicks off with "Common State of Inner Violence". A very fast song that gives The Haunted, early Soilwork, and Carnal Forge a run for their money. The next few tracks are simply stunning, and just flow extremely well. By the time Swallow the Flames comes along, you'll know what sets D.Mundi apart from most other melo-death bands - they can be very progressive as well as brutal.

Although the entire album is excellent, the tracks that will really grab your ear are "Morgue of Centuries, Red Clouds, Oceangrave and Mirror Behind".
If you've found that melo-death has become boring for you, give Disarmonia Mundi a try, your opinion might just change, if only for a while.

Beautiful, brutal music. Highly recomended. An excellent hold-me-over until Soilwork's next album drops.

Unfortunately because Bjorn has done guest vocals on this album DM will always be compared to Soilwork, much in the way people who have just heard Lacuna Coil for the first time are comparing them to Evanesence (who without being on the Daredevil soundtrack would still be nobodies) This is a great album. I love Soilwork, APP is my favorite album... and still has yet to be topped... FNF was a lot closer in my books than NBC. They're all great albums in their own ways.

Anyways back to the topic... d-generation will not have much trouble staying in my top 10 of the year... but I do think it will be a big fight between this and several other great albums I've heard this year... (Enter Chaos -- yes, I'm biased as thier webmaster, Hatesphere, etc)

There's a mini review in the favorites section of my wife's website (link in my signature):

Disarmonia Mundi 'Fragments of D-Generation' Scarlet 2004
Well what can I say, another Scarlet band that just blows my mind... and as if they needed to anything to boost them up even higher, how about Bjorn 'Speed' Strid doing guest vocals on the album? Well this album rocks from start to finish... and everytime I play it, I'm happily singing/humming/headbanging along. It's definitely one of my highest rated albums this year. A great mix of melody yet still heavy. If you heard these guys on the radio you might even confuse them with Soilwork... They have a definite link with all the prominent keyboards, heavy guitars, and with Bjorn's vocals adding the straw that breaks the camel's back. Definitely add this one to your want lists. I hope our Italian neighbours decide to visit us here in Spain soon! --Yoda

Just thought I'd mention, Sex to 9 has returned to the airwaves, and returned on Totalrock, (which has returned to SKY satellite in the UK as of the beginning of December)

Last night was the first show in a LONG time, and D-Generation was the featured album of the show (which means 3 tracks in 3 hours) You can see the playlist on the website (click my banner below)
