speeds vocals

When I first started listening to metal all those years ago I couldn't stand any of the vocals. It seemed like they were all either just screaming, or singing so high i couldnt even deal with it. As my tastes have adjusted and changed over the years, I have been able to really get into all the different vocal styles that are present in metal. Of all the vocalists that exist today, I would have to say that Speed is one of my favorites. He definately owns in the death metal style vocal department. He is actually the only one that I enjoy listening to. Especially on fragments. I mean, it's just so incredible the way he uses his own superior style and how well he has honed it from record to record. Everyone knows I am in Pyramaze, which is very different in style from Disarmonia, just to provide an example of the contrast and various genres of metal that I love and play. I think the keyboard stuff on this album is really amazing too. It's like trancy stuff (some definately seems programed) yet it is so powerful and adds so much to the music. Well I'm just rambling on now, I just wanted to say that speed owns. -jonah

Speed is great for melo-death vocals, as is Stanne, Akerfeldt etc.

But for actually death metal vocalists, Matthew Chalk(Psycroptic) has the art mastered. Of course normal death metal has no clean vocals which limits the variety of them and IMO that is one of the reasons why melo-death is superior in some ways, there is so much more "allowed" and it can be clearly seen when a band like DM takes those ideas vocally and runs with them.

I think Speed is a perfect singer for melodeath. He's not doing his best on DM album, but Follow the Hollow by Soilwork is the best example of his skills. He can sing and growl high and low. The chorus (Take a look take a ride!!) is my favourite.

Considering Akefeldt growls more than Speed by a long shot calling him a pussy based on his vocals is idiotic. And both Stanne and Akerfeldt have superior lyrics to Strid.

stane and akerfeldt are great too, but its like comparing apples and oranges. i just happen to think speed is the best. i never really worried about the lyrics though (since its hard to understand what they are saying anyways). i just like the way he sounds, and how it adds so much agression to the music. -j

What I really love about Speed's vocals as well as just the band in general is that they are a little more on the growls in this band. Speed also doesnt control all the Clean vocals there is a lot of backing. I dunno I just love the formula they are using more than Soilwork's. Oh yeah.. Speed rules live!
