I wonder, what do you good heathens like to do in your spare time?

mmtutti
01-16-2002, 02:32 AM
cost-efficient words, dream-quests, hammer smashed bass & other people's music.

and that is to say playing with words of varying shapes and sizes; sleeping/dreaming in the Lovecraft sense; amply distorted bassworks; and listening to... well, other people's music.

I love movies. All kinds. I also like to cook for my man. He loves food. All kinds. I also love to write and read, but it sometimes seems I don't have the time.. Theatre is my passion, but usually, on my spare time, I just get lazy and watch television. It's my worst addiction :(

Baldur Vulgo
01-17-2002, 12:11 AM
trying to compose immortal songs with my (brother's) guitar, creating & maintaining websites, listening to METAL, spending time with my fiancée, drinking beer, drinking beer, drinking beer, drinking beer, drinking beer, drinking beer and drinking beer...

That's about it I think... :)

allissson

I mostly sleep, spend my money in coffee or beer or i make silly techno and dance-remix songs from Moonsorrow´s and Finntroll´s music. You don´t want to hear that @#%$!

Yes....my "spare time" . :( Usually, when I have not promised to do something (sense a bit of irony here) I even manage to get some. And here´s how I like to spend it:
First of all,making music.Always,basically.
What else? Well,I´m totally addicted to Baldur´s Gate 2 (gone to the experience gap before chapter 7,for you all nerdies out there!) :) and Worms World Party. (...ehh...?) Then I like to read (mostly history or music-related stuff) ,cook (whenever my girlfriend lets me to do something in the kitchen), spending some time drinking massive amounts of beer and mjöd, and next summer I will go and fish again like all the Hel was broken loose! (I started it again last summer after having a 5 year gap.By Gods,I had almost forgot how f.ucking awesome it is! Just you,the lake and the forest....damn.Now I want to go fishing right away. ( )
And Aboriginaali will come by,right? ;)

I tend to play the bass in a band called Moonsorrow. I also drink beer.

For sure I´ll come!
I´ll bring the dynamite.

allissson
01-18-2002, 01:55 AM
well yeah, I suppose he had better, you will need some bait after all, now won't you?

When I have spare time in daylight hours I am always in my garden working. Other things I like to do for stress relief.......making candles, cooking, sewing, travelling, reading, making herbal oils and tinctures, home improvement projects.........and when I am doing all these things I am always..........drinking and/or listening to music :)

In finland we suffer from watery black winter(in Helsinki) and you can enjoy the sun of Florida(?) at your backyard! Not so fair.
Have you ever had a tornado or hurricane raging in your garden and ripping your herbs helloutta there?

Did you know some good baits for fishing? (better than dynamite?)

I would definately want to wisit the Everglades and see those inbred swamp-ass rednecks hummin´around with their swamp boats!

Damn i´m drunk, better go to sleep...

allissson
01-20-2002, 09:23 AM
The sun sux supremely. I avoid it like the plague. I have a sauna that is 1/3 of an acre - it's my back garden. It's OK- we have a 2m privacy fence. ;) When it rains then the vitun sun comes out it's just like a sauna with about 500% humidity. I would gladly send this sun to Helsinki with a one-way ticket. You send me YOUR summer.

Hurricanes.....yes, we get about 2-3 a year and now you know why I grow everything in huge pots :) - because when the hurricanes come they are easy to move indoors. :) You should see people here get into action when we have a hurricane - they go nuts and panic on a monumental scale. The shops love it because people buy groceries, water and lumber like they are going underground for 10 years. I look at it this way - as long as my plants are indoors there's no cause for worry - homeowners insurance has us covered for the rest.

Bait........well, I thought Henri could tie you to the end of the fishing line actually :p  No, just kidding, can't afford to sacrifice a guitarist like you for some poxy salmon or trout. I personally use shrimp as bait. and if you throw some breadcrumbs on the surface of the water it attracts the fish to your area. But I prefer saltwater fishing. I think the same will work for freshwater. You want to catch crayfish, use chicken necks. ;)

The Everglades........awesome...... unfortunately the ecosystem has still not fully recovered since the damage caused by hurricane Andrew in 1994. And if this kusipää Bush gets his way they will soon have oil drills there. :( But - you can catch some very nice crayfish in the swamps there :)

You want to see a swamp boat? How about a nest of baby alligators instead? they are a lot more pleasant to see. :) I hate swamp boats personally because they leak oil and petrol into the water and kill the plants and manatees as well as many other types of marine life. Rednecks, I'll tell you, have absolute ZERO regard for the environment. They make me sick.

If you want to see Florida, I strongly advise you come in winter because you won't survive the summer heat. I live here and I can't handle it...........I lived in England too long......

Drunk.......hmm.........good idea, think I might do the same :)

fuk winter. it's cold and it's snowy and it never rains. fuk Finland. what kind of idiots were our forefathers to move here in the first place. fuk black metal. they've probably never been in the army, sitting in a fukin' pothole at four a.m. in -30 C.

on the other hand, I hate the vehement sun even more severely. I hate cloudless skies: they eye me everywhere I go. there is no place to hide. it is foo fukin' bright in the summer -- it hurts my eyes. it is too fukin' hot -- I never get anything done. give me the misty moors of Scotland!

autumn is the only time I find myself in peace. what's wrong with a little rain? "right as rain," they say. I can't imagine anything more relaxing. I have been known to stand in the rain, just immersing myself in the awe of it. it makes me feel alive.

Greetings all, i'm new here, this is an interesting forum. Most
other places offend the fact that you're Pagan.

My days consist of dreaming, writing poetry, lyrics and doing
research for the book i'll write some day. When i'm not lazy i
pursue my Druid's studies, and listen to loads of good music.

Used to be a bit of an alchoholic, but now, the herb seems to
suit me better.

Fishing bores me.

allissson
01-21-2002, 01:35 AM
ArdChieftan - welcome :) Yes, most places are offended by Pagans, but not here. and not at the Finntroll forum.

What is your book going to be about?

How far into your Druid studies are you?

Herb has always suited me better and the Goddess keeps me well supplied ;)

I'm afraid i'll never get past the Bardic stage and to be honest
i'm not sure if i really want to. I'm exploring other Paths at the
moment.

My book will deal with how xtianity came to Ireland and how
the Old Wisdom had to go deeply underground to survive. A
lot of it is based on actual truths and a truly unique source.
The more i research the harder it becomes though !!

Anyone heard of Waylander ??

VauhtiParoni
01-21-2002, 04:01 PM
I haven´t heard yet. What kind of music do you play? Any connections with Cruachan? Cruachan is the best band from Ireland I´ve heard. Their new album "Folk-lore" is an absolut killer!

btw, have you got website?

allissson
01-21-2002, 06:38 PM
ArdChieftan - I think christianity came to Ireland the same way it came to everywhere else unfortunately - it was forced upon the people in a most brutal way by the crusaders. :( But I am curious as to WHY those bogus beliefs have become such a strong part of the culture there. Paganism ran very deep in Ireland before the crusaders got there and it does surprise me that christianity caught on like it did. And for ages now the christians have been fighting against each other in N.Ireland. What is your theory on that?

I haven't heard of Waylander. Tell us about them.

ArdChieftain
01-22-2002, 04:28 AM
I think xtianity being forced on Ireland is much too simple.
Those xtians were devious, intelligent bastards. Gold and
financial aid offered to Chieftains came with a price, a foothold
into the religious beliefs of Ireland. Legacies of our past still
scream at those with ears to hear, in modern Ireland, yet the nonthinking nonseeing conservative populace care more about
what coat is fashionable and other such inane trivia.

Waylander, were formed in 93, we play Pagan Metal, with
folk influences, kinda like a death Metal Skyclad or something.
Lyrical inspirations are Pagan philosophies, and Folklore.
We released our debut album via Century Media in 98 and released our 2nd album a few months back via Blackend/PHD.

Hope this doesn't look like i'm hogging ad space for my band ?

Greetings to everyone.
I guess this part of the forum is the best way to introduce myself. My interests: listening to pagan bands, headbanging, writing songs and playing keyboards.

vitr
01-22-2002, 04:03 PM
Well they can blow their fukkin' selves to hell and back for all I care - but the moment they kill someone innocent, like spinelessly planting a terrorist bomb, their own life loses it's value, by their own definition.

As far as I am concerned they should line the @#%$ psychos up and shoot them, before they get too used to our prime minister kissing their arses and letting the convicted killers out of prison.

Another fine example of how religion inspires that pack mentality of everyone having to think the same, and with the restrictive crushed nature of "worship", it's no wonder they have to dominate/crush anyone who thinks differently, that's what their religion is based on. :(

I don't think religion will wipe out the human race, it's too illogical. Some cell clumps take millions of years to evolve, and when they are advanced enough to look at themselves they create a bunch of fantasies to give themselves meaning, and kill eachother through it. Nah, it won't happen IMO.

My hobbies at the moment are insomnia and serial killers. The dark side of the human mind has always fascinated me. Think I should've studied psychology more intensively...
Ooh, I also listen to loads of shitty bands and occasionally I manage to stumble across a few good ones. This Waylander sounds familiar as a name, but I can't recall that I would've ever heard the music. It sounds so intriguing that I must hear it. Very soon.

I saw Slipknot on sunday and they were kinda great. I mean if a band gets approx. 5000 people to give them the finger, they have to be cool. Control the masses. :)

Hey Chieftain, is there some good Irish or Celtic metal bands that use folk instruments? I'm interested also other Celtic metal bands.
Why don't you put mp3's in your Waylander site? It looked like an interesting band, but i can't buy a record without first hearing the music even a little bit.

If you wan't to know(and listen) what a wicked pagan like me does with his heathen (or not so heathen) brothers in his spare time, you can go to www.lempo.cjb.net (http://www.lempo.cjb.net). Bruhahahahaaaa!

allissson
01-29-2002, 05:42 PM
yes, I know, sage is nasty but it has excellent antibiotic properties. A hit of lemon balm and/or mint will help to buffer the taste :) But chances are his senses of taste and smell have been hampered as they usually are with a cold, so he won't notice the taste anyway :)

Hi Al.
The flu went away by itself, slowly as always because I'm such a terrible patient. I have a hard time staying still even when I'm terribly ill. (<-No rhyming intended) Which I fortunately was not. Thanks for the tips on the herbal lore... although I was too lazy to get my mitts on any of'em. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o">

The temperature is dropping again. Sad. I liked the rainy weather even if it's not supposed to happen in february. Ooh! The fog was especially nice! :) Fog is good. Rain is good. Thunderstorms I crave. At that time I feel the most alive... Funny.

I'm having a writer's block. I'm having difficulties finding inspiration to writing lyrics.. :( Fortunately I've got time till the end of May. Still... I know this will go away but I wish it would go away NOW! Hmph.

This is kinda tropical weather here. It's not supposed to rain in February. It's supposed to be cold as hell and lots of snow. This used to be the coldest month of the year, to the best of my recollections.. Not that I miss the freezing temperatures. I wish it were summer already.

allissson
02-14-2002, 06:07 PM
where do you live?

Laine
02-14-2002, 10:53 PM
It couldn't be any better! Either it's below zero, and you slip on the ice and break your skull, or it's above and brown watery snow is very wet and everywhere. Immortal have to be ignorants, or their songs are about some different kind of winter. This is about as un-inspiring as it gets.

On the "original" topic (this forum seems to have more like living organisms instead of topics, which is good)... I buy cd's, love to make silly shopping lists on cd's, borrow cd's from the library, occasionally listen to them, read (mostly mythology, and too little because I seem to be addicted to the glow of my monitor), and... go to school? I'm not really sure if I do anything else. Scary.

Johannes Kostaja
02-14-2002, 11:14 PM
In Hellsinki! That's for sure. I don't know which is worse - the horrible sub-zero days or the slippery ones, when you pray to anyone who happens to be listening that you get home alive and somewhat intact.
It is funny how one manages to get home safely from a bar when one is really pissed, and it's really slippery. Drunken luck I spose.

well, you guys are pretty good skaters and pretty handy with a set of skis so I am sure you have the ability to manage ;)

Laine
02-15-2002, 02:07 AM
It guess it's in our blood. The time I usually crawl out of my cave just for the sake of being outside is night, and even then I manage to stay on my feet, though I haven't practiced any winter sports in a long time. True ski-men avoid the readymade ski routes. Skating is related to ice-hockey, which is a Deadly Sin.

Must be one of Nature's laws, that when you drink outdoors in the summer you simply fall over all the time no matter what you do, other way around in winter. Could be because mjöd runs in plentiful streams when it's summer, but I don't think so.

In winter our primitive survival-senses come to play, and with them comes the ancient fear of Ukko smiting us with a bolt of lightning if we fall over and put our folk into shame by being lousy drinkers. Good drinkers never fall (in winter).

Let's see. First and foremost I'm interested in music. I play piano and anything with similar keyboard and contribute my skills to two bands. Playing/practicing takes approximately 2-5 hours a day. Then of course I listen to music (metal, classical, folk, rock, ambient/soundtrack) for about as long. I also write rewiews for a finnish webzine called Dragons Den, which is found at dragonsden.nethop.com/ (http://dragonsden.nethop.com/) in case somebody is interested.

I'm also quite intense computer gamer but my "poor student economy (tm)" rarely allows me to buy new games (the latest have been Baldurs Gate 2 and Operation Flashpoint), since buing records is the first priority (then food, then games). i also read about 1-2 books in a week (studyind related books excluded). I read nearly anything from Edda to Agatha Christie preferably in original language if it is finnish english or swedish. Occasionally I watch movies in a theater or from television but I wouldn't call it a hobby. My favourite movies are Braveheart and a chinise movie Elämänkaari (I don't have clue what it's name is in english countries and i'm not beginning to guess either).

Few times a year I go to Lappi for hiking or hiihtovaellus (which is the same but in winter and by skis) or downhill skiing (usually during my winter sports holiday and sponsored by my parents). I also combine these hobbies so that I climb up to a mountain (or rather tunturi whatever that is in english) without any skiing lifts and then ski down it. In addition to nature oriented traveling I try to visit my girlfriend (who lives nearly 300 kilometers away) as often as I can.

There i think that's all I do. Considering the long list of quite time consuming hobiies it amazes even myself, how I manage to find time for all of this. The answer of course is at the expense of my studies (meaning skipping lectures and neglecting preparing for exams).

Hey, Xbox rulezzzz ok!!!!111 ;)
It's just great to save your own musics (Moonsorrow or Manowar...) to the hard disk of Xbox and play some game and listen to Heavy Metal!

tell me, does it play videos that are encoded into cd's, like if I were to put Crimson in there would it play the video of "killing me Killing You"? If it does that AND DVD then I'll might get one :) I don't use these machines for games anyway. And that will be MY box - husband and son can have their PS2.

I like to play ice hockey in winter, but that's been quite impossible this year in Helsinki so I have been mostly sleeping in weekdays so I have more energy on weekends and don't pass out too early ;)

I also like to bake as you can see from my irc-galleria pic. There's a pic of me and my Thor's hammer bread :)

btw, I've listened Waylander for some time and in my opinion it's much better than skyclad or cruachan... better vocals.

Nowadays it seems that I can only have two hobbies, music and school...I find myself every evening doing schoolwork with some good cd´s in the player...
But when I have time I enjoy painting, reading, MUSIC (again), doing stuff with computer, history, tattoos, nature, drinking cider, going to gigs etc.

Laine

allissson

 no Laine. Life doesn't work like that sweetie :) And I grow the hemp outdoors because the sunlight is much better for the plants than artificial grow lights and our climate here is very well suited for growing year-round. :) I guess you could say that I am one who works to support the parasites

"now what else do you do than write to discussion forums? "

haha smartass! :p I am a human resources manager and deal with people and their problems all day. I also train and counsel people. Defuse situations. Basically I am babysitter to 50 men. We have a siamese cat as an office pet/customer service manager and I look after him too and fuss on him. He's sitting on my desk right now :)

sounds like a nice job... we just have some old pc at our class that we make labels to our products. but you can also play solitaire with it. last year we had newer pc's and internet connection in them. that was a great time to spend time now there's just solitaire... yippee :/ :(

allissson
03-20-2002, 11:45 PM
when do you have time at school to play solitaire?

Wezhyrkh
03-20-2002, 11:59 PM
we have long days and we make one or two products per day. so the we make a dough then we have some 15+ minutes... and then we cut the dough to smaller pieces and then we put the dough to rise that's 30+ minutes. and then we bake the breads or wieners or whatever in oven 10+ minutes. so there's enough time to play solitaire :)

I see. :) How long did it take to make the Thor's hammer bread? that's got a lot of detail to it.

Wezhyrkh
03-21-2002, 12:13 AM
three days. one to draw the design and two to actually bake it (I could've done it in two days if I wouldn't have been 3h late from the day I was supposed to start baking it) :)

Laine
03-21-2002, 12:19 AM
Did you actually eat it? :p

Wezhyrkh
03-21-2002, 12:28 AM
nope I still have it here. but you can come to eat it. it should taste interesting because the dough has salt, wheat flour, cocoa flour, and water. so it should taste like salty chocolate... YUMM :D

Hmm, let's see, as best as I can recall my hobbies are:

Computer gaming and programming, listening to and playing music, playing RPGs, medieval anachronism, studying various pagan beliefs, hunting, fishing, archery, shooting, enjoying the pleasures of different types of substances imbibed, reading, and anything else I can manage to do if I have any free time left.

Actually, why yes I am Allison! I am a member of Marche of the Unicorn while here at school. When I am at home I usually do more foam-fighting related activities, since that's what I started with, and I have good group of friends back there to fight with. Our realm there is Rausumea, which particpates in Dagorhir/Belegarth events.
