Hej Stefan. Varifrån har du stjälat dessa hamrarna? Kan jag intar dem på min sida också?

Good question actually. I have no idea where I got the hammers from  I probably just searched for "Thor's hammer" or "Mjölnir" at Google.com and found it :) Steal it or whatever

Hittavainen

O.K.
Your site is lot more popular than mine, so if the owner of that hammer notices the theft, it's propably not me who get kicked in the arse.

Acutally I think I took it from a "pagan jewlery" site...so it's a piece of jewlery that one...

allissson
01-23-2002, 10:49 PM
really? that's a very pretty necklace then. :) What do you reckon, solid gold? How much do you think it's worth?

Baldur Vulgo
01-24-2002, 12:06 AM
Well I actually have almost that exact hammer swinging round my neck...though in soild silver...it costed me 100 swedish crowns...9-10 dollars that is...

Have no idea (can't remember) what that one did cost at the jewlery site...or if it was solid gold...sorry

none of this paraphernalia really means anything if it's store-bought. let us make our own, out of wood and stone...

I would like to address a persistent misconception: the Vikings never wore horned helmets. nor did they call themselves Vikings -- they were "northmen". the romantic image that we have of them now was created in the 1800's by Swedish poets to make up for the loss of Finland over to Russia in 1809 (good thing they did, too).

thekjide
01-26-2002, 04:14 AM
True. Vikings didn't wore horns on helmets, nor did they call themselves vikings. But what's even more striking, is that they were most of all traders and colons(not warriors, which was kind of a second job), and after a while they became the best x-ians x-ianity did ever have.

allissson
01-26-2002, 08:13 AM
you gentlemen are right on both accounts and let us not forget that either. Excellent points you both have brought up.

mmtutti - I could not agree more about forging tools oneself of wood and stone because that is the proper way. Come to think of it, in the numerous tmes i've toured the Scandinavian galleries of the British Museum I saw many ornate cups made from horns but not one helmet with horns on it.

Northmen = Norsemen. North = Nordic. Could be that the rest of the world just could not understand the dinking habits of these people.

I know for damned sure that I could take a group of random Norsemen to New Orleans (the US city that is the epitome of drinking) and put them up against anyone there who cares to accept the challenge, bet my land on it with total confidence that the Norsemen would do me proud. :)

As for the "Vikings" being the best x-tians that that religion ever had - Of course! after all, was it not the SWEDISH king who had a heavy hand in forcing xtianity on Finland? He had had enough of the Finnish heathens going there and plundering so he thought some empty xtian values would sort them out, but Finland didn't succumb without a fierce fight. ;)
I seem to remember a tale about a certain farmer and a bishop ;)

I try to figure out why people the world over have adopted xtianity when it's nothing to do with Jesus. The eighth wonder of the world I suppose.......

When I look back on myself as a child I realise how frustrated my parents must have been with me.............not my father so much as my mother. My father is a heathen but has no idea that he is............or if he does know he keeps his mouth shut because it's better than having my mother jump his *ass for it. Funny how he has never expressed any objection to my beliefs......

Thank you, allissson. I guess vikings became x-ians because it was just easier to workship (no more sacrifices, maybe). And as for the world, two possibilities: they imposed their religion or they had enough money to convince some folks that they workshiped the right god.

DEATH TO THE FALSE RULER!!!!!!!!

ps:You should check Windir´s first album out...this guy has understood the true way of "vikingness"....according (accordion?) to his picture.

allissson: do you speack french? If so, I know a great site where you can learn a bit about Windir, or anything about black and pagan metal, really.
Anyway, here it is:

Oh yes, it wuz a Swedish king who started that mess. All hail the vikings!!!

Well, better comfort mr. Trollhorn then. The viking era ended in 1065 and the first crusade into Finland was only in 1155, so it were not the vikings to blame - directly. ;)

allissson
01-28-2002, 10:14 PM
Thank you VP for the website. I went there and had a look - that picture on the cover of the Sognardalr is absolutely beautiful! And also very symbolic. Being female I had to be nosy while i was there too and I listened to a couple of sound files. It strikes me as quite melodic with intelligent content :)

thekjide - I don't speak French, but I went to look at the site anyway. I didn't see anything to do with Paganism on that site. Who is Baalberith - it it a band?

thekjide
01-29-2002, 12:45 PM
Ok, allissson. First of all, baalberith is just the name of the guy who made the site.

To access pagan metal, it's a bit complicated...
First of all, click on "entrez" towards the end of the second page (it's written on a tombstone). Then press F11 to have a full screen and click on "sommaire" at the top. Then look for "musique infernale", and then on "la liste complete de tout les albums". Then you finally find out that baalberith talks about 491 black metal albums. Towards the middle of the page there is a space where you can select the band you want to know about, and click on "envoi". And there it is.
But if you don't speack french it is not really worth going through all this @#%$.

allissson

I am glad that YOU speak French - merci beau coup mon ami - I will check it out :) (that's about all the French I know) ;)

"let us make our own, out of wood and stone..."

Got bored with my Kalevala Koru(tm) -mjöllnir, so i decided to make a real unique one. I just picked up a suitable stone from my front yard, filed it to a mjöllnirish form and engraved the carvings to the front side with a screw.

http://www.onlinerock.com/musicians/lempo/misc/leka2_pieni.jpg

There's nothing wrong with the KalevalaKoru, but if you go to the Corner bar for example, and every third person has an identical necklace as you, there's no point wearing it. :) At least it's a bit boring... :p

That turned out lovely Hittavainen :) How long did it take you to do that? What kind of stone is it? Myst be a soft-ish one to allow for such detail to be carved into it.

Hittavainen
09-03-2002, 05:46 PM
Thanks. I don't know anything about geology, it's some soft stone which i found in our front yard. Hmm, it took maybe one or two hours. I got quite luck to find it so easily, the other stones that i tried afterwards were very hard to even file.

Do you now Calc stone or smth.
You can find it here in the Netherlands easily..
I think when I have vacation in Autumn/fall.
I will trie to make a statue of thor or smth.
Would be nice or from skadi..:) the goddess of ice

allissson
09-10-2002, 12:42 AM
do you mean calcite? Yes, I know what that is. hardness is about 3 mohs which does make it perfect for carving. I'd love to have huge blocks of it to make statues for my garden. Unfortunately, the garden centres and statuaries around here do not sell the sort of things I have in mind.
Hittavainen, you should know that it's never an accidental finding when nature presents you with a gift like that. ;) It might look like just a cheap piece of rock to most people but it's a sacred trasure, especially since you put your energy into it. :)

No, actually i don't make such things, i just one day got an idea to make my own Tor's hammer when i wondered where i could get a bit more unique one. I have drawn pictures some years ago, but nohing notable there. :)

Too bad you have a potential there.
The hammer really looks nice.

I head about a guy who also made his own stuff, like vikingingen tattoo's with runes..

Does anyone inhere has got viking tattoo's?

Yesterday I saw a great movie with vikings and one of the guys had a tattoo right in his face..
