Let's get some good discussion going...

What do you dislike/want to change about Insomnium?

Personally, there are very few if any problems I have with the band, but there are a few things that get under my nails. One of them are the vocals. While I love the scream, I would like to see more syllables in the lyrics and perhaps not drawing out the words out so much. Another thing about the vocals is that it almost seem slike he is trying to sing "too low" on the clean vocals and it'd be interesting to see what it sounds like with a little more melody.

What makes Insomnium different from other bands/what draws you to them?

One of the best things about Insomnium is their recording quality. Everything sounds so real. It's not overprocessed, the bass drum is so warm and soothing to the ears and the guitar tone is top notch. Also, there is tons of layering, which makes it impossible for me to get bored. Things like the acoustic guitars, triple (sometimes quadruple) harmonies and slight keyboard nuances put them on a level above most other bands who don't know how to make a song last. In addition, all of their instrumental's are perfect, adding touch to their CD's and making them complete

I also think he sings too low. Also, sometimes it sounds like he should say one syllable more than he does. Other than that, really good singing. A few of the songs aren't really my cup of tea, but then i guess that happens with every single band in existence.

Also, i'd include all of their lyrics on their website and i'd change their forum from Hmas to UltimateMetal.

Well, they have great lyrics (the ones i've read, anyway) and their music is brilliant. If their next cd is any better than Since the day it all came down (which is amazing), they might become my new favorite band. And, now that Zack mentions it, the recording quality is indeed great.

What I Dislike

Some of their riffs aren't technical or fast enough for me, and I occasionally think that the acoustic sections on their songs can drag.

What I Enjoy

Their music is passionate and soulful, sad when it needs to be, aggressive when it needs to be. Their lyrics are better than most bands, whether or not they're from English speaking countries. The song structures are well arranged, and Markus is a really fucking tight drummer.

Also, they're poor, which is unjust considering hacks like Slipknot are rich and famous. It's ethical to support them. :)

What I dislike
Nothing. Insomnium is my favorite band. I love the way they work and wouldn't want to mess with it.

What I enjoy
I love the fact that they don't just play fast riffs like everyone else. I love the mood and the soul, it gets inside me like few bands do. I love the punch they provide to the rhythm guitar that drives the songs so fiercely. I love the poetic lyrics and the awesome way in which they're sung. I absolutely love the acoustic sections of their songs.
I hope go wherever they want to take the music, because they've done a bitchin job of that so far.

I agree, this is just discussion. For instance, if Insomnium were to come to the board and say "we should do everything that's in the Pro's Con's thread" I would be pissed. I want them to do what they want and wouldn't have it any other way.

I agree. If they happened to comply with some of the stuff on here purely out of their own choice, that would be cool. But it's their band and they should do it their way. Whether we like it or not is irrelevant.
