Yihaaa... my first post over here at HMAS. Metal up your whateveryouprefer people!

I'll go for the whole nine yards and include anything "folk/pagan/viking/celtic": Primordial (the two latest albums just made them gods), Otyg, Vintersorg, Moonsorrow, Finntroll, Bathory (!), Ensiferum, Einherjer (did you hear the new song on their website? Not too impressive unfortunately), Enslaved, Falkenbach (resurrect now!), Borknagar, Allegiance, Mithotyn, Skyclad... sums it up :)

Tanqeray = Great folk-influenced metal with critisizing lyrics mixed with a sense of humour, wrote in a masterful way? If it is, then I check them out!

Greetings Hjalmar, and welcome to this mighty forum!

I see ye have Helheim as one of your favorite viking bands. I find them good too, altough I haven't heard too much of them yet. You can recommend any albums or songs?

Hjalmar793
11-29-2002, 04:49 PM
Thanks for your welcome! Nice to be here.... ;)
To get an impression of Helheim, I would recommend you their newer release (2000) called "Blod og ild", including a great Video of their song "Jernskogen".
Also nice to listen to is the album "Jormundgand", especially the song "Jormundgand"... Impressive, that a man can cry so loud, with so much anger and in such a high voice for such a long time... ;)
So long,
Hjalmar
PS: You can also download the (really fantastic!) video of Jernskogen on their official Website: www.helheim.com

yea I know, and Odroerir, says this something to xou?
Mehir is cool, very thuringian patriotic but good

I think really good these guys

Einar, you know it, Thuringia is still the kingdom of the Hermundurii and their heirs ;)

Hehe, yes, if someone likes Menhir, he/she should most definately check out Odroerir, musically coming from the exact same source ;) Wasn't there also some other Saxon Pagan Metal band some years ago? Cryogenic? I can't remember that well... but they sounded alright :) And Tumulus? Dunno where they are from, tho...

And about other Thuringian bands - Mourning Ends is a nice listen, as well :) Especially their latest effort "Kriegerseele"

But I dunno why people only limit to Viking Metal, Celtic stuff can be just as nice - go ahead and try Waylander, I love both their efforts :) Or Suidakra, well, bet you already heard of them anyway....

Helheim is also rather unommon Viking stuff, at least it doesn't sound too much like 08/15 of some other bands ;) Only heard the "Blod og Ild" album tho... need to get the rest soon.

As for other Viking stuff from germany, if female vocals are liked, and "grim" vocs can be tolerated, and good music is needed - what about Adorned Brood?

Hmmm, there are a bunch more good bands...this post got boring enough already... *stop*

Ensiferum owns me. I can't call them favorite or 'top 5' band to me yet b/c they only have the one album, but damn I love that album.

And Windir is also excellent!

I would add Falkenbach, Einherjer, Moonsorrow, Enslaved, Bathory, Helheim, Goat of Mendes (pagan), Primordial (Celtic/black), come to think of it, I could just go on forever. I'm hard pressed to come up with a viking/viking-related band that I don't at least like.
